{"id":7708,"date":"2014-01-04T19:27:12","date_gmt":"2014-01-04T19:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/archive.rockylhc.com\/2015\/elizapark\/?p=7708"},"modified":"2014-01-04T19:27:12","modified_gmt":"2014-01-04T19:27:12","slug":"fighting-suns-meteoric-rise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.rockylhc.com\/2015\/elizapark\/fighting-suns-meteoric-rise\/","title":{"rendered":"FIGHTING SUN\u2019S METEORIC RISE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brilliant debut yesterday by the highly rated, Fighting Sun, who raced into everyone\u2019s Golden Slipper calculations by taking out the 1100m 2YO Plate at Rosehill.<\/p>\n<p>By the ill-fated, Northern Meteor from the Group One winning, Irish Darling, Fighting Sun was snapped up by Gai Waterhouse and James Harron for $180,000 at last year\u2019s Gold Coast Magic Millions and is owned by Eliza Park International principal, Mr Ting Kong Cheng.<\/p>\n<p>Given that Mr Cheng also races Irish St Leger winner, Voleuse de Couers (who ran in the 2013 Melbourne Cup and is being aimed at a second tilt in November), 2014 could be a very big year!<\/p>\n<p>From Breednet &#8230;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>SLIPPER GOAL FOR NORTHERN METEOR COLT<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic will be run next Saturday, but champion trainer Gai Waterhouse is happy enough to give the race a miss with her exciting colt Fighting Sun, who scored a sparkling debut win at Rosehill on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Allowed to travel just behind the pace for James McDonald, Fighting Sun proved too good in the run to the line to overpower Group III VRC Maribyrnong Plate winner Boomwaa and debut winner Kumaon to win by three-quarters of a length.<\/p>\n<p>The son of Northern Meteor clocked a brisk 1.04.02, which is the fastest two-year-old race over 1100 metres at Rosehill this season.<\/p>\n<p>A $180,000 Magic Millions purchase for Gai Waterhouse\/James Harron Bloodstock from the draft of Turangga Farm, Fighting Sun runs for the Asian based Sun Bloodstock Pty Ltd managed by Ting Kong Cheng, whose Sun International Group took over Eliza Park last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGai has always earmarked the Golden Slipper for him,\u201d said stable representative Mark Newnham. \u201cA lovely colt that\u2019s shown a lot from the start. He was really good winning today.
