Cyclic voltammetry refers to one type of voltammetry technique used in the fields of electrochemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry and biochemistry. In cyclic voltammetry, the potential of a working electrode (WE) versus a reference electrode (RE) is ramped linearly with time. After the set potential is reached, the potential across two electrodes (WE v.s. RE) is ramped in the opposite direction to return to the initial potential. These cycles in potential variations could be repeated as many times as required. The analytical data for a cyclic voltammetric experiment comes in the form of a cyclic voltammagram, which plots the current (vertical axis) versus the potential of the working electrode (horizontal axis) during the potential scan. As the Elite-EDC functions as a wireless potentiostat, the voltage across the WE and RE is swept over a pre-set range with a specified sweeping speed. The corresponding current at the counter electrode (CE) is then measured and displayed versus voltage in real time.

• Miniaturized and wireless voltammetry

Measuring how the current flowing through a device (Iin) changes with the voltage across the device (Vout) has been a fundamental method for characterizing a device (e.g. resistors, diodes, transistors, biosensors, etc.). The I-V curve of a device refers to plotting the measured current versus voltage in a diagram. For a novel device, it is crucial to develop an analytical model for the I-V curve, so as to apply the device as a sensor or to develop a functional circuit with the device.
