Analysis
Stakes winner Sharkbite is by Redoute’s Choice – the leading sire son of Danehill, and now an outstanding sire of sires – and from the same sire line and family as the outstanding sire Dansili.
Sharkbite’s pedigree indicates that he is ideally-bred to cross with mares from the Sir Tristram line – there are more than 30 stakes winners on a Redoute’s Choice/Sir Tristram cross – and successful sources include Octagonal and his sire Zabeel (also sire of Savabeel, Reset and Don Eduardo, and grandsire of Lonhro), Kaapstad, Sovereign Red, Military Plume, Marauding, Grosvernor , Hula Town and Dr. Grace. From the same female line as Sir Tristram, comes Star Way, and Redoute’s Choice has Group One winners out of mares by both that horse and his son, Sky Chase. Mares by Star Way’s son Telesto may prove particularly interesting.
Sharkbite is a Northern Dancer line horse with multiple strains of that horse, but breeding back over selected Northern Dancer strains should still work work well here. Mares carrying Storm Bird, a genetic relative to Nijinsky II (who appears three times in Sharkbite) should work well, including daughters of Bluebird (who can be brought in through Lake Coniston, Dolphin Street and Blues Traveller, the latter already broodmare sire of a Redoute’s Choice line Group stakes winner); Hennessy (whose son Johannesburg strongly appeals here); Catrail (broodmare sire of a Redoute’s Choice line Group One winner); Giant’s Causeway –

The Minstrel is a three-parts-brother to Nijinsky II and close genetic relative to Storm Bird, and should work well here. He is represented in Australia by Palace Music (sire of Naturalism) and Masterclass (who is from the same family as Redoute’s Choice).
We can also note that there are 13 stakes winners on a cross of Redoute’s Choice over mares from the Last Tycoon line. It could also pay to introduce Northern Dancer through Sadler’s Wells, whose has been represented in the broodmare sire line of Redoute’s Choice stakes winners through Barathea, Galileo (sire of New Approach and Teofilo), Blevic (by Scenic), Singspiel and Runyon, with other sources including Montjeu, High Chaparral, Carnegie, Artie Schiller and King of Kings. Out of mares from the male line of Sadler’s Wells’ brother Fairy King, Redoute’s Choice has four stakes winners, one Group One out of mares by Encosta de Lago and another out of a mare by Shinko King, with Falbrav and Helissio being other potential sources. From mares descending from the sire line of Nureyev, there is a pair of Redoute’s Choice line Group One winners, including one from a daughter of Stravinsky, as well as a stakes winning duo out of mares by Peintre Celebre. Nureyev could also be introduced through Spinning World – who is from the family of Redoute’s Choice – and his son as well as Thorn Park, Ashkalani, Fasliyev and Starcraft.
With his pedigree so strongly influenced by Nijinsky II, mares from the Mr Prospector look likely to suit Sharkbite well. From this line, Thunder Gulch (out of a mare by Storm Bird) and Zafonic (out of a mare by The Minstrel) and his son Xaar (from the same female family as Redoute’s Choice) particularly appeal. Another Mr. Prospector line horse that gives similar inbreeding is Umatilla, a half-brother to the dam of Redoute’s Choice. Geiger Counter, End Sweep, Distorted Humor, Jade Hunter, Hussonet, King’s Best and his sire, Kingmambo (also sire of Dubai Destination), Secret Savings (sire of Dash For Cash, and a son of Seeking the Gold, also sire of Dubawi and Dubai Destination), Timber Country and his sire, Woodman (also sire of Hector Protector and Woodborough) and Unbridled’s Song. Of other Mr. Prospector line stallions which have stood in Australia it is worth considering mares by sons of Machiavellian (including Street Cry and Vettori), as well as daughters of Fusaichi Pegasus, El Moxie and Real Quiet.
Considering domestic sire lines we can note that Redoute’s Choice has a Group One winner out of a mare by Snippets, and he and his sons Pins, Spartacus (broodmare sire of a Redoute’s Choice line stakes winner) and Snowland, should work very well with the multiple Nijinsky II in Sharkbite’s pedigree. The Hail to Reason line might be introduced through Halo and Roberto. Among the sources of Halo are Sunday Silence (who is broodmare sire of a Redoute’s Choice Group stakes winner, and who is available in Australia through Fuji Kiseki, Genuine and Tayasu Tsuyoshi), More Than Ready (broodmare sire o f a Redoute’s Choice line Group One winner) and Don’t Say Halo (broodmare sire of a Redoute’s Choice Group One winner).
Mares by Roberto line will give a double of that horse, with Sharkbite’s strain through Champion Sookera.
